December is a great time to travel and here are 5 of our top picks for the month.
Prague’s old comes to life at Christmas.
Expect fur trees, lanterns and of course, the epic annual Christmas fare which some say is the best in Europe.
Now I can’t stress what a foodie’s haven this place is; expect traditional Czech cuisine, mulled wine and ‘grog’?! All the to backdrop of glorious carol singers.
Now aside from Christmas fayres, Prague has stunning gothic architecture, and plenty of art galleries to get lost in all year around.
In Edinburgh, they manage to drag New Years over three days, which in my opinion is awesome!
Hogmanay, as it’s called in Scotland, is probably one of the best celebrations you’ll ever witness. Why? Because there are concerts… fireworks… concerts, street parties and ceilidhs..

If you’re after a real winter wonderland then head to Finnish Lapland!
At this time of year you can’t beat visiting Rovaniemi, better known as the Official Hometown of Santa Claus, who can be visited every day in his official Lapland offices!
Finland is a magical place for adults too, the Aurora Borealis appear on more than 200 nights a year – and with cosy Arctic Treehouses available to rent, if you’re lucky you can fall asleep watching the northern lights!
For a different and much warmer Christmas, head to Sydney!
Now Sydney is a really cosmopolitan city, it’s full of art and culture, and of course, you’ve got the opera house which is the perfect place to have a tour. Or if you’re there in January, and you’re there for New Year’s Eve, you’ve also got the beautiful fireworks overlooking the harbor.
There’s nowhere quite like New York during the holiday season, when the city twinkles with festive lights, Central Park opens up its iconic ice rink and the storefronts turn into works of art. While December in the Big Apple is certainly chilly, it’s one of the best places on Earth to enjoy the build up to Christmas; for those who tend to dream of snow, skates and Santa Claus, a visit is definitely a must. So grab your warmest parka and a beanie, and prepare to be enchanted.
