Whenever thinking about your next travel plans, there are plenty of items for consideration. Are you taking a road trip, flying by air, hotels, rentals, activities, food? The list goes on and on. These items can add up quickly if you are not careful.

So, before you start any travel plans, you need to have a budget in mind. Honestly, how much money do want to spend a vacation? Elaborate…

Now that you know how much you want to spend, how much of that is currently saved? You knew I would come back to this subject, because I wasn’t going to give free reign to go into debt to buy that next trip. You need to put money aside now or build it up over time while approaching that next trip. If you know how much you want to spend then breakdown how much you need to save each week or month to reach your target.

Now that we have identified all the financial elements of the trip, we need to understand how we can maximize our dollars to the fullest. There are plenty of travel tips to save money and have a great time.

Are you wanting to drive a car to your next vacation spot? This can dramatically bring your expenses down as you only need to pay for gas along the way. Yes, it might take a little more time to get to your location but save money in the process. Now, if you factor in maintenance and comfort of driving a car there, you may want to consider renting a vehicle. Could improve the drive and possibly be cheaper in the process.

If your travels will involve air, just remember this could eat into your budget, but there are plenty of ways to fly cheaply. Email lists can open your eyes to deals you never thought were possible including international. Also, the day you choose to fly makes a huge difference in the price. If you can fly on a Tuesday, you have the best shot at receiving the best rate available.

Accommodation:

Now that you figured out how you want to get there, you also need to sleep somewhere. This subject can range widely from camping to staying at a plush resort. Now staying somewhere does not have to be expensive, even at nice places. You can search the internet for those locations, but also recognize that deals pop up all the time. If you are willing to go somewhere during non-peak months, you can save tons of money. So how flexible are you?

Activities / Food

As you can imagine, food can be done so many ways. Even on vacation, you don’t have to eat at a restaurant all the time. Depending on where you are going, food might be included like a cruise or Disney vacation. Food can take a significant chunk of your budget, so if you are staying at a hotel, go where there is free breakfast. Pack a lunch from items at a grocery store. Have a grocery store deliver food to your hotel room, so you don’t have to go out.

Now activities can be cheap like a wonderful hike or expensive doing some one-of-a-kind experience. It depends on your traveling objective. What I will say here is be reasonable. You will probably not get to do everything on your wish list and a sacrifice will have to be made to keep things under your budget.

Now, there is a second option that might be right up your alley to save money on a vacation and not have to lift a finger. If you are looking to take your family to Disney, a cruise, some road trip or whatever your heart’s desire, you want to seek out my friend Jennifer at Dream Creators Travel. She can work within your vacation parameters and setup the entire trip. Did you know that Disney and Cruise lines already bake in the commission of the sale, even when booking yourself? Why not take advantage of someone setting it up for you like Jennifer? Also, you can setup a payment plan leading up to your vacation date, so you have no debt when you return. Enjoy vacation and never have to stress during the planning stages.

I hope you can see there are many ways to travel on a budget and still get what you want out of it. With a little bit of research or reaching out to a helping hand, it can be done.
